I want a Tokarev

Postby polymerase1 » Wed Oct 28, 2009 8:37 pm

I am still waiting for my C&R. I called and they said it was pending, I was transferred to some voice mailbox and haven't heard back. Anyway, when I get it, my first purchase is going to be a Tokarev and I might go crazy on some of the under $100 Mosins. I notice there are Romanians, Polish and Yugo's out there. Any thoughts? The prices for one that is in good shape with two mags and a holster are all within $20, so price is not an issue. The Yugo is not C&R so than might make me lean towards the Polish or Romanian.

My gut feeling is that the Pole would be better made.

I really was going to get a Tokarev but when I got my C&R a certain milsurp site had some really really nice M39's. Once I get a sunny day I'll post a pic. We went from two years of drought to rain or drizzle most of the last several weeks. I AM NOT COMPLAINING!!!! It was a really bad drought. Oak trees and cedar trees died.
Lonesome, range report?

Definitely give a range report once I get her. I need to order some ammo, too. I love that ammo for this gun is SO CHEAP!!

The blued beauty has arrived. Looks like it is in good shape. Looks like it was dipped in old axle grease. Will need some cleaning. Ammo is here to so I have motivation. I can't believe the ammo is so cheap! 72 rounds for $8!!!!!!!

I like my Tok very well. Before I bought mine I read in several places that the angle of the grip handle was weird and caused it to shoot high. I have never experienced that. I bought some custom Makarov type grips with a thumb rest and it made the gun fit my hand better. I liked the 7.62X25 round so much I bought a CZ52 also. The Tok seems lighter and more accurate than the CZ but they both shoot great. I sometimes use the Tok as my carry piece (as well as my 1911 Colt, a PA 63 and my CZ) but I switch around as my mood and where I'm going takes me. I usually buy 3 or 400 rounds at a time and have shot as much as 300 rounds in a fun day shoot. I can't go to the local indoor range here with the 7.62X25 round as they won't allow any bottle neck cartridges. .357 and .44 mags are ok but not the 7.62, go figure. You will enjoy yours I'm sure.

Cleaned up nice. I'll do a picture with a range report. I have decided that it is the ugliest pistol I have seen so far. I will start an Ugly pistol post in a day or two.
The gun is in pretty good shape. I like the fact that the whole trigger assembly pops out. The add on safety is the biggest POS I have seen. It looks like the part was sand cast and then mounted using nothing but a file! Even in grease the safety has rust spots. But I keep reminding myself it was around $225, a nice example of commie sidearm, the same age as my wife (she is much better looking) and the ammo is around $6.25 for 50 rounds. I hope to come to love the beast after I shoot it. IF not, it's a great truck gun.

Forgot to take a picture, finally went to the range. The Tokarev may be an ugly pistol, but it shoots beautifully. I kept switching back and forth between the Makarov and the Tokarev; both seemed equally accurate. 2-3" at 15 yards. I like the feel and the dirt cheap ammo. No failure to feeds or any problems. Except the safety fell out when I was cleaning it. I thing the spring detent was defective from the beginning so I have to fix that. Or not. It isn't a carry weapon and it didn't have a safety originally. Definitely a great shooter for a cheap price.

Occasionally miracles happen. Those of you that know realize that I lost the spring and detent when the safety popped out. I actually found them on the garage floor! It made my day.

I have learned my lesson, I will start using a 2.5 gallon baggie as a capture bag for working on pistols.
