Changing a CETME Black Widow (Century) Stock to Wood

Postby glen3107 » Wed Jan 28, 2009 6:42 pm

I just bought a Century CETME Black Widow - Ban Era Model.  It has a plastic hand guard and stock.  I'm thinking of changing them to wood.  Does anyone have any suggestions about where to purchase the stock and hand guard?
Also is the change over simple?

I would check the auction sites for the stock set.

The change is easy, what you need is just a couple of screwdrivers. A wood stock has a screw where a Century stock has a pin in the handguard. There is also a monster screw holding the buttstock to the rear cap - you get at it by removing the rubber buttplate.

The problem with changing the stock on a Black Widow is that its a 922R
compliance part, and if the ATF checks the rifle you are in trouble. The pistol grip and the forearm are also compliance parts and other parts as well.

Mine was Ok in that department. The fire control group  was clearly US marked.

There are 7 US compliance parts required by 922R on the CETME, on the Black widow, Century Arms used the stock, pistol grip, forearm, receiver,  hammer,  sear, and a flash hider,if you have a rifle put togeather by someone else they could have used other parts. If you Google CETME Black widow 922R parts theres a list of what can be changed and still be in compliance, the ATF will allow just certain parts to be changed as compliance parts. I also wanted to get rid of the cheap US. stock that came with mine, but so far I cant find anything to exchange with another US. made part other than a buttstock by TAPCO. I did see a US. made hammer and bayonet lug on a web site, but I dont remember where that was.

Hi Sir,

I bought a GERMAN complete wood foregrip & complete wood stock from Centerfire systems. $29 I think
It slipped right on! You have to switch the plastic or metal rod guide bushing with the original Cetme bushing. Just push out the pin under the guide.
The rifle seems to handle better with the wood stock! The other poster is correct if you mix German & Spanish parts.

Best of luck,
