Ever see one? MAS .22lr Trainer-

Shot the MAS today, only at 25 yds, I'll take it to the outdoor range the next time I get a chance to go. I like this thing a lot!! Since it was reportedly "unfired" (from the appearance inside and out, I don't doubt that it was), I wanted to break it in. I didn't go crazy. Three rounds then clean, did that three times. That's about it. I don't do well at all with peep sights unless I'm out in the daylight, and being that this indoor range I was shooting in today is lit like the serial killer's dungeon in "Silence of the Lambs," it was a bit rough. Still managed to put ten rounds in a group you can cover with a quarter, most of them touching. I expect that to tighten up a bit with outdoor lighting.

This thing is really fun to shoot off-hand with the sling, it balances really nicely.

Shooting CCI std. vel. ammo, I had to move the rear sight to the 100-meter mark to raise the POI to where it should be at 25 yards. A shorter front sight would help dial that in, but I'm NOT going to mess with this thing. It's too nice.

Sometimes it doesn't eject the spent casing clear of the action and you have to flick it out with your finger before chambering the next round, but I can live with that. Definitely happy I got this thing!!

More reports to come when I can shoot it at the outdoor range--

Breaking it in? It requires about a century or so of heavy use to put wear on a .22 bore, in fact the action of a cleaning rod will wear it in faster than shooting it. The .22 lead bullet is very easy on the barrel, some may be plated, but none are jacketed, this is why .22 rifles tend to be passed down in family's for generations and still be good shooters. Sounds like the ejector needs a little adjustment.
With a .22 that is properly lubricated and protected from rust you will never wear it out from shooting it, only from cleaning it so be very careful how the rod contacts the bore, watch the crown, and use the softest rod you can find, most important is to be minimal in your bore scrubbing. Many competition shooters will not even clean the bore at all on a .22

Buy a .22 bore snake. JYD is correct that a rod is probably worse than not cleaning it at all. Let me suggest some SK standard plus ammo.

I am always coming across .22 cleaning kits from the 1950's and 60's with hard steel cleaning rods that screw together in sections, nasty things. Bore snake would be best.

Yeah a bore snake makes perfect sense on a 22. Maybe the ejector is a little gummy, like the one on my Romanian trainer. Mine needed a little polishing to free the ejector up.

Hmm. Well I was slow and careful with the rod as always. Everything appears to be fine but in the future I'm going to try not cleaning the bore. Seems when you look around on the internet, there are those who say that they scrub the hell out of their .22's like the military does, and then there are those who "never" clean them and say that's the only way to go.
