M91 rv

The M91rv is one of the rarest Finn rifles to find. This rifle is basically a Model 1891 adapted for cavalry use by modifying the but stock and fore stock to allow attachment of a sling suited for use on horseback.

According to the source that I read, the 91rv was introduced in the 1920's and phased out about ten years later.

The butt of the rifle has a Mauser style inlet for a cavalry sling as well as a standard sling attachment. The unit disk pictured here is most likely not genuine and was added sometime later as a filler.

The fore stock features both sling attachments as well.

The reverse view shows how the mounted sling attachment is anchored through the width of the entire fore stock. Notice the hand guard on this rifle. It extends all the way back and rests against the front of the rear sight base.

These rifles are so rare that one informed collector estimates their numbers in the United States as less than five total.
